Homestead Earns Historic Statewide Recognition for Inclusion

Homestead High School is celebrating a major milestone after being named a 2026 Special Olympics National Banner School—a rare distinction celebrating campuses that foster extraordinary inclusion, equity, and acceptance. Homestead is one of only three schools in Wisconsin to receive the award this year, and just the third high school in state history to earn the honor.

To reach National Banner status, schools must meet 10 rigorous standards centered on Unified Sports, inclusive student leadership, and whole-school engagement. The effort was spearheaded by senior Hayley Rapaport, who led the drive to bring the Unified Program to Homestead and meet all national requirements before graduation. She was supported by UBall Head Coach Jess Jost, Assistant Coach Heidi Joynt, Advisors Sara Boeck-Cunningham and Samantha Stark, and dedicated staff members across the building.

The good news doesn't stop there: Homestead was also named Wisconsin's Best Buddies Chapter of the Year. Recognized for going above and beyond to build meaningful friendships between students with and without disabilities, Homestead was chosen to represent the state at the Best Buddies Leadership Conference.
